Below is the timeline of the Caregiver Program

1992: The Live-in Caregiver Program (LCP) was introduced, with the goal of facilitating permanent residence for caregivers.

2014: The LCP was closed to new applicants, and the Caregiver Program, a branch of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, was established.

2019: The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot were relaunched, offering pathways to permanent residence.

2024: The Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker pilots closed to new applications on June 17, 2024.
-
March 31, 2025: The Home Care Worker Immigration Pilots (replacing the previous pilots) launch, offering new pathways to permanent residency.

Who is a Caregiver?
Caregivers are individuals who are qualified to provide care for children, elderly persons or persons with disabilities in private homes without supervision. Moving to Canada as a nanny is very popular and people love working as nanny in Canada.

The Home Child Care Provider Pilot (NOC: 44100) and the Home Support Worker Pilot (NOC: 44101)

What are the requirements for PR Application?
There is CAP on the number of PR applications to be accepted every year. The requirements are as following for the applicants either in Canada or outside Canada:

Secondary School (Education assessment needed, if studied outside Canada)

Experience of atleast 6 months in relevant field with supporting documents

English or French equivalent to CLB/NCLC 4

Genuine Job offer from Canadian employer (Normal families anywhere in Canada)
What are the requirements for work permit Application?
There is NO Cap on the number of work permit applications. You need to have Study or Work permit in Canada to apply for Work permit of Caregiver. Visitors in Canada cannot apply for work permit of Caregiver.

No need of relevant experience (As it is TEER 4 job)

English or French would be an added advantage.

Any relevant course for 1 to 6 months (In-person or online) would be an added advantage.

Apply for Business Number and Payroll A/c Number for hiring Caregiver. Call Canada Revenue Agency at 1800-959-5525

Genuine recruitment efforts to hire local Caregiver

Income Proofs of Employers -Notice of assessment for previous year (Parents income is needed in case of Child caregiver and Children income is needed in case of Elderly Caregiver)

ID proofs of all

All should be Canadian Permanent Residents or Canadian citizens

Utility bill latest

Also need to apply for Recruitment license (Depending upon the residence province of employers)
